With a grand total of 61 medals, India's journey to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 was a hugely successful one. India came in fourth place overall in the medal count, with Australia topping the tally with 178 medals, it will be a long way for India to beat them; nevertheless, I can say this , If we keep progressing and performing the way we did this time and earning more medals in other sport disciplines, then we are not too far behind...

But there is one thing that nobody is talking about, and that is the improvement in the performance of all of the female competitors from 2010 to 2022. They have come a long way, and the majority of them do not have supportive families who allow them to play sports. This is especially true for sports like weightlifting and wrestling, which have traditionally been male-dominated sports but are now filled with female athletes and are two successful / medal-winning disciplines in India.

The following is a summary of the female competitors from the 2010 Commonwealth Games through the 2022 Commonwealth Games :

The preceding tally displays the growth of the  women's medal tally in the Commonwealth Games over the course of a period of 12 years. We can see that there has been a decline in the number of medals won between 2010 and 2022; however, the reason for this decline is due to the absence of shooting, tennis, archery, and Greco-Roman wrestling, which collectively won India 49 medals in the 2010 CWG!!! It's surprising, isn't it, but if we compare India's performance in 2010 to that in 2022, we see that India did very well, and this would be India's best performance to date.

Female athletes like P.V Sindhu, who made India proud by winning her first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games , Nikhat Zareen, who won her first ever gold medal for boxing at the Commonwealth Games , and Mirabai Chanu, who made India proud once again by winning a gold medal in weightlifting in the 49 kg category. In a nation where cricket is often dominated by men, the Indian women's cricket team delivered an outstanding performance, winning a silver medal in the process.  Offering yet another uplifting example for India's youth. Anahat Singh, a girl of only 14 years old who is competing for India in squash, is the youngest athlete to  compete for India in this years Commonwealth Games.

The progression of Indian female athletes over the years, not only in terms of winning medals but also in terms of participation, is incredibly motivating to observe. A total of 104 women competed in this year's Commonwealth Games (CWG), and it is an extremely gratifying moment for India to witness its female competitors excelling in wrestling and weightlifting. The majority of Indians have the misconception that these sports are dominated by men nonetheless, kudos to all of the country's female athletes for shattering stereotypes such as "YOU PLAY LIKE A GIRL" and "CAN GIRLS BE MUSCULAR?"

CONCLUSION

These are the ladies that serve as a constant source of motivation for young women around the nation to serve their country. We congratulate all of the female athletes who competed in this year's CWG  and we hope to see them in Paris 2024, where they can once more bring pride to our country.
